Half-Bath Transformation for under $100

Transforming your half bathroom doesn’t have to break the bank. With a bit of creativity and some DIY skills, you can give your space a fresh new look for less than $100. Costs Breakdown

Board and Batten Materials: $40
Paint and paint sponge: $18 (used some left over paint from another project)
Spray paint for fixtures: $7
Glass surrounds for light fixture: $20
Rubber trim for mirror surround: $14

Step 1) Paint

A fresh coat of paint can completely transform a space. Choose a color that complements your fixtures and adds a sense of freshness to the room. Lighter colors can make a small space feel larger, while bold colors can add a pop of personality. Don’t forget to properly prep the walls before painting to ensure a smooth finish. In this project I used a unique technique using a general household sponge that gave the wall a textured look similar to wallpaper but for a much lower cost! The best tools to achieve this look is a laser level and a sponge! The design is meant to have some imperfections and comes out looking incredible! Check out my Instagram video here demonstrating how it was done!

Step 2) Update Fixtures

Giving your bathroom fixtures a makeover can make a huge difference for low costs. Consider replacing outdated faucets, towel racks, and toilet paper holders with more modern options. If buying new fixtures isn’t in your budget, you can give them a fresh coat of paint or swap out the hardware for a quick and affordable update. For this project I spray painted all of the fixtures black! (INCLUDING THE FAUCET- controversial I know). I used Rust-Oleum’s Matte Black Paint and Primer in one that is designed for metals. This bathroom is by far the most used in our home and we are going on over one year of no chipping or fading of the painted faucet! To give the light fixture a brand new look, I replaced the fogged glass surrounds with clear glass and a sleek looking light bulb.

Step 3) Board and Batten

Adding board and batten to your walls is a simple and affordable way to elevate the look of your bathroom. If you don’t currently have any power tools, you can use pre-cut boards from your local home improvement store and attach them to the walls using construction adhesive and finishing nails although two of my favorite recommended beginner tools are a brad nailer and a miter saw which will make the installation go quicker and ensure sturdy quality results that will last. Once installed, caulk any nail holes and gaps between the walls and apply some paint! Pro tip: use a scrap piece of wood as a spacer between the battens to make them all the exact same distance apart!

Step 4) Update the Mirror

If your bathroom mirror is looking a bit tired, consider giving it a makeover. You can frame it with inexpensive molding or trim for a more polished look. Alternatively, you can use adhesive mirror tiles to create a unique and modern design. Whatever you choose, make sure it complements the overall style of your bathroom. I went with a simple black rubber trim that was very easy to install and elevated the mirror from a builder grade look to a custom oval mirror.

Step 5) Add Shelves and Decor

Finally, add some finishing touches to your bathroom with shelves and decor. Floating shelves are a great way to add storage and display space without taking up valuable floor space. Fill them with plants, candles, and decorative items to add warmth and personality to the room. Don’t forget to include a few towels and a stylish hand soap dispenser for both function and style. I had all of these things laying around the house but if you are looking to save money you can almost always find something while thrifting!

Transforming your half bathroom on a budget is totally achievable with a little creativity and elbow grease. By following these five simple steps, you can give your space a fresh new look for less than $100. So roll up your sleeves and get ready to turn your bathroom into a stylish oasis without breaking the bank!
